Top 10 Camping Holiday Must-Haves for 2009
Top Ten Camping Holiday Must Haves

Packing for camping holidays can sometimes be a tricky task – the key is to be prepared, but not to pack the whole house and the kitchen sink!

Tracy Rutland is Touring and Camping Manager at Sandford Holiday Park, Dorset. Here Tracy shares with us her top 10 camping holiday must-haves, from the more unusual to camping necessities

1. Electric Hook-ups. Who would have thought you could watch television from your tent, or even make a cup of tea, without the aid of a camping stove. All possible, with the emergence of the electric hook-up!

2. Acrylic Glasses. A camping must have and a new emerging trend amongst campers and motorhome owners alike. These are lightweight, non-breakable and available in all shapes and sizes. These practical glasses are available to purchase on park at Sandford.

3. Solar Panel Lights. Charged by the sun, there is no need for electricity or batteries, a must amongst the camping fraternity.

4. Battery powered LED light pods. These are battery powered lights that are great to illuminate your tent. They have an adhesive back, so you can attach them to any surface and they will provide hours of bright light.

5. One Earth Wind-Up Phone Charger. If you are holidaying under canvas then this will be a must-have for avid ‘texters’. It is very simple, you wind it up and it charges your phone – although it might give you arm ache if you use your phone frequently! There is also a slightly more expensive solar powered version available

6. The Waspinator. August in the UK is wasp season and they can be so annoying when you are eating al fresco. The Waspinator is an environmentally-friendly way of keeping these stripy pests away as it fools them into thinking there is a rival nest and they scarper rather than risk a fight!

7. Lifeboat Matches. These windproof and waterproof matches have been tried and tested by the SAS and NATO, so as far as matches go you won’t find a more reliable match. Of course, while the match will work, the weather may not be appropriate to dine al fresco, in which case you can enjoy a tasty bite to eat at one of our restaurants available on park.

8. Eurohike Tent Speaker. You can take your music with you when camping. Battery powered, you can plug your mp3 player in and turn up the sound (but not too loud please unless you are alone in a field)

9. Citronella Candles. These classic candles are still firm favourites with campers everywhere at keeping the mozzies at bay! Not only that, but they are also practical at helping light up the night sky. So you can enjoy a lovely mozzie free night out under the stars by candlelight.

10. Solar Powered Tent. Recently unveiled by Orange as the “future of camping” this tent is fully gadgeted up! This solar powered tent is equipped with WiFi, power points, climate control – and even a text activated glow in the dark function so you can find your tent at night!

You can find out more about the solar powered tent and keep up-to-date with our other camping holiday tips and exclusive offers on Twitter – www.twitter.com/parkdean.

If you know any unusual, yet ingenious camping gadgets which we should have on the list, give us a tweet on Twitter and your gadgets may be featuring in our next camping list!
