Spirit of the Sea Festival in Dorset

The Weymouth & Portland Spirit of the Sea maritime festival, Dorset, is a great family event spread across nine days to celebrate the sea and local area.

The festival, only in its' second year, will take place 4th – 12th July. With a huge programme of events, Spirit of the Sea Festival 2009 is expected to be bigger and better than ever!

Spirit of the Sea brings together a range of sporting activities, cultural events and entertainment from local independent businesses and organisations to celebrate the areas close relationship with the sea.

This year the events cover a huge spectrum, bringing something to suit a whole range of tastes. From local focussed events such as Weymouth Beach Live – which will showcase local musicians and the Dorset Seafood Festival to sample local cuisine, to sporting events such sailing, kayaking and kite surfing, to family focused events including a Tudor Picnic, family festival and the children’s carnival procession.

Just outside Weymouth is Sandford Holiday Park, one of our Star Parks packed full of first class facilities and award-winning entertainment. Sandford is a great base for you to stay at with the family and enjoy the Spirit of the Sea Festival on your summer holiday.
