The Original Bicycle Festival May 2009 Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries and the Galloway will be playing host to The Original Bicycle Festival from Saturday 09 to Sunday 24 May.

The Original Bicycle Festival celebrates the mountain bike, road cycling trails and rich cycling heritage of the beautiful south west of Scotland attracting 1000's of visitors every year.

The 16 day festival focuses on promoting access and participation in cycling throughout Dumfries and Galloway through an exciting programme of open mountain bike and road cycling events.

The festival is not just for the professional cyclists, a range of different cycling activities and events are available for all ages and abilities. So whether you're a family with young children, a cycling enthusiast, a regular bike rider or if you're just new to the sport but keen to have a go, there'll be something for you!

With over 20 events ranging from cycling tours to music from local bands and monologues from Kirkpatrick Macmillan, the event is an ideal opportunity to discover a new side to Dumfries.

Set on the lovely Galloway Coast, a short distance outside Dumfries is Southerness Holiday Park, an ideal base for the family during the festival period.

If all the cycling gets too much for you, you'll still find plenty to keep you occupied on and around Southerness. Set only steps away from the Galloway Coast and within minutes of some of the most popular golf courses in the UK you can enjoy more than just cycling!
