Helston Flora Dance – 8th May 2009

Helston is a small town in the South of Cornwall.

Once a year the streets of this otherwise quiet town come to life as everyone takes the streets for the Flora Dance (or Furry Dance).

The Flora Dance is one of the oldest British customs practiced today and has become a global phenomenon, attracting 1,000’s of visitors every year from across the world.

All of Helston takes to the streets for the Flora Dance, dancing around the town and in and out of shops dressed in 'top hat and tails' for the men, with the ladies in their best 'ball gown' attire.

With several different dances throughout the day including Morris Dancing, traditional dancing and the Furry Dance, and with loads of stalls, crafts and activities, the Helston Flora Dance is a fantastic day out for the family and an experience you cannot get anywhere else!

We have got two fantastic parks just down the road from Helston; Mullion Holiday Park and Sea Acres Holiday Park. Both parks are ideally located a short drive from Helston and nearby stunning Blue Flag beaches.
