Take Part in South Devon’s Crab Month This August

The South Devon Crab is considered to be one of the regions finest natural resources, and this month long festival is a celebration of the South Devon Crab. Welcome to South Devon Crab Month.

August will see South Devon celebrating all things crabby and highlighting the quality and importance of the wonderful seafood found off our coastline. Some of our wonderful local chefs will be putting special crab based dishes on their menus for the month and you’ll even be able to cook up some of these delicious recipes at home after a visit to the region.

There is a variety of Crab Month events taking place across the region and with further details yet to be announced you’ll need to check back regularly to find out what’s going on.


 

Crab Crab Day Street Party, Dartmouth. Book your tickets for the Crab Street Party quick! This unique event sees Dartmouth filled with bunting, music and best of all delicious crab!

Crab South Devon Crab Trail Competition. Fun for the whole family, the South Devon Crab Trail allows children to learn more about crab by earning points for correct ‘crabby’ answers. There’s also the chance to win a family meal at the Ilsington Hotel’s Blue Tiger Inn, by submitting a crabby drawing. Find the trail here.

Social Media giveaways. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for your chance to win a ‘Crabby’ goody bag each week throughout August.

Take part in our South Devon Crabbing Photo Competition. Take a picture of your best catch, enjoying a crab sandwich in Dawlish or maybe buying your child’s first crabbing line – we want to see your ‘crabby’ pictures. Simply upload your picture to Twitter using the hashtag #SouthDevonCrab or post to our Facebook wall and the best picture will win a delicious family meal for four at The Cary Arms, a Cary Arms Crab Cup and a crab cuddly toy!

Go crabbing! What better way to celebrate South Devon Crab Month then going out there and trying your hand a crabbing? Select your perfect spot and head out to the beach armed with a bucket, crabbing line and bait and see what you can catch.

Cafe Alf Resco have got a whole month of crabby activities planned. With fun and games including ‘Spot the Crabs, guess who many crabby sweets are in the jar plus a weekly crabbing league table – there are plenty of opportunities to get involved! Make sure you look out for the ‘Alf’s Crabbing Guide’ with all their top tips to crabbing.

The Millbrook Inn Beach Party. For family fun in the sun head to the Millbrook in for their crab beach party. Expect good food, games and fun for all! More details to follow.
