A Weekend in Wemyss Bay

Views

Having worked for Parkdean for 10 months now I thought it was about time I visited one of our parks for a getaway with my family. I brought along my Mum, Dad and partner and was lucky enough to book a gorgeous Argyll 2 bedroom lodge at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park during the Glasgow September Weekend.

The drive was beautiful, my Dad volunteered to be designated driver so I had the opportunity to take in all the sights along the way. Driving from Newcastle meant a lovely mix of countryside and city views, before arriving at the pretty coastal location where Wemyss Bay is situated.

After picking up our keys and a map of the park from reception, we were excited to pass through the private gated area where the row of lodges is located. On entering our lodge we were amazed not only by how spacious and modern the interior was, but how all the home comforts you’d need had been thought about in detail, the lodges really are a home away from home and we settled in right away.

By the time we’d unpacked our bags we’d worked up an appetite so headed up to Livingstone’s Bar & Grill for some food. My partner is a bit of a burger connoisseur and was delighted when his meal arrived piled high! It was great to see local produce on the menu such as the haggis and Scottish beef, and a family of picky eaters were all very much satisfied.

We stayed for a game of Bingo at the Clyde Entertainment Lounge & Bar (no big wins for me unfortunately), which ended our night with a laugh, before heading back to our lodge for a very cosy first night.

Susnet

Waking up early and ready to seize the day, we scoffed bacon sandwiches before venturing to Loch Lomond an hour away, taking in the stunning views and dipping in and out of the many tourist stores as we passed them. An easy-going day enjoying each other’s company was just what we needed, and we headed back to the lodge armed with ingredients to cook up a storm! After having our fill of home cooked stir fry, we noticed the mist which had lingered earlier had lifted and the views from our lodge were now spectacular. The sunset was utterly beautiful and the hills in the distance combined with the trees around our lodge made the most picture perfect setting.

Ferry

Our Sunday was spent exploring the local area; we had fish and chips for lunch while watching the local ferry travel to the Isle of Bute. If we’d have had more time we’d have loved to hop aboard and explore the island’s extravagant gothic mansion, or the ruins of Rothesay Castle! In the afternoon we all relived our childhood in the amusement arcade on park; I made sure I tried my hand at a range of games, from air hockey and Mario Kart rides, to the 2p slot machines and the Wheel of Fortune. It was hilarious and I loved seeing my parents enjoy themselves so much!

It’s safe to say we were all downcast when we realised our stay was almost over, but a well-deserved break, along with some quality family time, was just the ticket we’d all needed.

We regretfully packed up the car the next morning and waved goodbye to our home for the weekend, but no more than 10 minutes passed until we were planning our next visit!

Huge thanks to everyone at Wemyss Bay Holiday Park for making us so welcome, we’ll definitely be back for another holiday soon!
