Hidden Treasures: Parkdean Film & TV Locations

Our journey into discovering the secrets and hidden gems from around our holiday parks continues…

With our parks having such stunning locations we weren’t completely surprised to learn that many of these areas were used as dramatic backdrops to a whole bunch of our favourite blockbuster films and best loved TV shows. Have you recognised some of these spectacular holiday destinations on the big screen? Here are our personal favourites!

The Cornish Coast

The BBC TV series Poldark was created on the Cornish coastline.

From horseback riding on the grasslands of Bodmin Moor to cliff top scenes showing off dramatic views across the Camel Estuary and Tregirls beach, Cornwall played the perfect host to this dramatic TV series. An increase in bookings to Mullion and Sea Acres holiday parks when the show aired on BBC1 is testament to the stunning coastal scenes that captured viewer’s imaginations! (What was that? Aiden Turner on my favourite beach… I’m there!)

Holywell Bay Beach, near Newquay

The backdrop for the opening scene in the James Bond movie Die Another Day.

With landscapes reminiscent of the North Korean coastline, Holywell Bay beach and its famous Gull Rocks were once a Hollywood film set graced by Bond himself! With the likes of Pierce Brosnan enjoying these golden sands, this beach is well worth the visit; and not just as a film set – the clean, safe (and spy-free) waters make it perfect for families too!

Pendine Sands, South Wales

The perfect setting for an episode of Top Gear.

We couldn’t think of a better location to shoot a TV show all about motor vehicles! Seven miles of golden sand with a flat, firm surface have earned it pride of place as a popular location for car and motor racing through the ages. Pendine Sands played host to the Top Gear petrol heads as they put three super cars to the test, the Porsche 911, the BMW 645Ci and the Jaguar Xkr. Don’t worry, the beach is usually car free and still makes the perfect location for a family day at the seaside, there are seven glorious miles to enjoy after all!

Port Isaac, near St Minver

The setting for ITV series Doc Martin.

This traditional fishing village in north Cornwall is possibly best known as being the fictional village Portwenn from the ITV television series Doc Martin. The narrow winding streets and old white-washed cottages play home to Doc Martin (Martin Clunes) and the trials and tribulations of his life as the general practitioner of the village. Once a sleepy fishing village, Port Isaac was put back on the map for providing the breathtaking backdrop to this popular TV series!
