My Devon Bucket List

When I think about a holiday I want it to be filled with all the exciting opportunities found in the area, and as I’m planning to visit Devon this spring I have, with difficulty, narrowed down a few things I know I won’t want to miss on my visit…

Walk in the footsteps of Smugglers

There’s nothing I love more than exploring interesting new places, and Ness Cove beach in South Devon is exactly that! This beautiful, secluded beach is walled completely by impressive red stone cliffs and has to be accessed through an original Smugglers tunnel. I can’t wait to discover this beach for myself.

Give the little grey cells a rest

As a big Agatha Christie fan I knew I’d be in my element in South Devon, and I’ve found the perfect place to start in Anstey’s Cove, where Agatha herself visited and gained inspiration for her novels. Apparently the quiet and peaceful shingle beach is also the perfect place to relax and get away from the busy city life. I’m already dreaming of hitching a deck chair and watching the waves go by!

Trek the Tarka Trail

When the weather’s good there’s nothing I love to do more than taking long bike rides and discovering new places, and the Tarka Trail in North Devon is the perfect place for me to do exactly this. Inspired by the journey of Tarka the Otter in Henry Williamson’s famous book, the trail offers 30 miles of empty roads to cycle down the old railways of North Devon, I can’t think of a better way to spend a sunny afternoon.

Discover an underwater world

I consider myself quite the adrenaline junkie at times and I’ve wanted to try snorkelling for as long as I can remember. Lundy Island, dubbed Britain’s Galapagos in the North of Devon, offers a marine reserve to dive and snorkel where I can get up close and personal with seals and sharks. That’s certainly something I’ll be ticking off my bucket list!

Ride the waves

I have areal passion for surfing and I can’t wait to explore the amazing beaches Devon has to offer me. Woolacombe Beach is currently the number one TripAdvisor attraction in Devon and top beach in the UK! The three mile stretch of golden sands is situated between Morte Point and Baggy Point where I can surf and explore the local town to my heart’s content.

I can’t wait to get out and about exploring all these amazing places. Are there any I’ve missed? Share your own Devon bucket list in the comments box below!
