David Bellamy Awards 2015

We are pleased to announce that the 2015 David Bellamy Awards see 18 of our parks with Gold awards and six with Silver awards! And that’s not all…

Honey Bee Awards

In addition, seven of our parks have been granted ‘Honey Bee Friendly’ status which means these parks have worked hard to create a honey bee haven where the bees can access pesticide-free food, shelter and water.

Special Distinction Awards

Congratulations to Ruda Holiday Park and Sundrum Castle Holiday Park who have both been awarded a Special Distinction for their fantastic unique projects. These awards are for particularly innovative projects and initiatives that parks have put in place and are designed to highlight new thinking and ideas that others can learn from.

With the help of Ranger Rose, Ruda Holiday Park received the distinction for turning the sand dunes, ponds and meadows into a wonderful classroom not only for guests but for local people too. Guided walks, rock pool rambles and bug hunts are organised along with events for the local primary schools such as a Learning Camp for year-5 children from Caen Community Primary School, during which they built a bee/bug/reptile hotel.

Ruda: School pupils helping Rose the Beach Ranger

With the help of Audrey and chef Alistair, Sundrum Castle Holiday Park earned their distinction for building a kitchen garden and plant nursery which they have done over the past three years. A greenhouse, made almost entirely of 2,000 recycled plastic bottles collected from customers, was created and to save water all bottles were washed and rinsed with rain water collected from drums.

The benefits of the new ‘plastic’ greenhouse have been massive. Plants grown in the greenhouse have been used in hanging baskets and flower beds around the park. As well as saving money, the flowers brought on from seed in the greenhouse have allowed the park to bring on plants at different times of the year to keep the colours flowing.
