Are We Nearly There Yet?

The school holidays are here! So it is inevitable that at some point during the six weeks holidays you will hear those five words. “Are we nearly there yet?”

In fact, according to 67% of 1,478 respondents, it will take less than an hour into your journey to hear that. However, there are solutions, as our research shows.

Lots of responses

We decided to do some research about family car journeys on holiday by speaking to lots of parents. In total, 1,478 people shared their experiences of car journeys with the family, offering some great tips as well as insight into habits and behaviour.

One thing we did discover is that age-old tricks still work. It seems our parents’ influence made a difference. Books were the best distraction according to 532 people, closely followed by iPads and tablets.

In fact, the use of technology was universally popular with 64% claiming that they are very confident of using it as a means to keep the kids entertained.

Eddie Stobart

We were also pleased to discover that spotting Eddie Stobart lorries are still very popular on car journeys – in fact it was the most common thing that people look out for.

As for background music, this is vitally important, and 37 per cent of respondents prefer pop when trying to satisfy the kids. Interestingly, 49 per cent are happy to choose the music as a group decision, which is probably important to avoid any fallouts!

Pack ginger biscuits

Our research also threw up some brilliant tips and suggestions from parents on how to make the journey a little less stressful. One thing we learned, which was suggested by a few parents, was to pack some ginger biscuits because the ginger is great for settling upset tummies.

In fact, snacks featured relatively infrequently with a lot of people preferring finger food and healthier options.

There are also wristbands that you can buy from Pharmacies which are made to combat travel sickness.

We want to thank everyone who got involved in our survey and helped us to shed a little more light on family car journeys. We would love to hear more of your tips, suggestions and experiences so tweet us @Parkdean with your #AreWeNearlyThereYet advice!
