Fun in the Sun: Thrilling Days out in Cornwall

Cornwall is renowned for its beautiful beaches, dramatic clifftops and local landmarks, meaning there are many places around the region where you can admire the stunning scenery. However, if you’re seeking a day of adventure, there are also plenty of exciting attractions to visit, which are bound to get your heart pumping!

From rollercoasters and waltzers to zip wires and go karts, Cornwall is filled with many fantastic attractions where you’ll find something to suit all ages. Here are four of our favourite places for those seeking a thrilling day out in Cornwall!

Flambards Theme Park

Packed full of exhilarating rides, fantastic entertainment and a range of indoor attractions, Flambards Theme Park is the perfect place for a family day out. Less than 15 minutes from Mullion Holiday Park, there’s something for all ages to enjoy at this popular theme park.

If you’re holidaying with little ones, they’ll absolutely love it here. From traditional rides, like the carousel and the teacups, to the Space Shuttle and the pirate ship, there are so many rides for them to enjoy. Kids will love the Dino Express, taking them on a journey through the jungle where they’ll be able to spot life-sized dinosaurs! There’s an outdoor adventure play area too, where children can burn off some energy as they make their way through tunnels, down slides and along zip wires. If the sun disappears, don’t worry, as there’s not one, but two indoor play areas, filled with ball pools, slides and soft play.

If you’re not afraid of heights, brave the Skyraker! It’s the tallest ride in the park, meaning you’ll be greeted by incredible views of Cornwall once you’ve spun your way to the top, before plummeting back down to the ground! After an afternoon on the rides, don’t forget to check out the park’s indoor exhibitions, two of the most popular being the Victorian Village and Britain in the Blitz.

Camel Creek Adventure Park

Just 15 minutes from both Newquay Holiday Park and White Acres Holiday Park is Camel Creek Adventure Park, which offers a fantastic family day out. Surrounded by over 100 acres of Cornish countryside, kids will absolutely love it here. Whether you’re an animal lover or a fan of family-friendly rides, this award-winning attraction won’t disappoint.

From the Pony Express and the Demon Drop Slide to Vertigo and the Wave Rider, there are so many thrill-seeking rides to enjoy. If it’s a nice day and you’re feeling competitive, the whole family can take part in the Downpour Derby. The aim of the game is simple; to completely soak your opponent!

The park is also home to an array of incredible animals. One place not to be missed is Crocodile Corner, where you’ll come face-to-face with a 13ft python, water dragons, West African dwarf crocodiles, lizards, frogs, and so much more. You can even get your photo taken with a snake if you’re brave enough! Another area that’s worth visiting is Meerkat Magic, where you can meet the park’s two resident meerkats, Coco and Jambo.

As well as rides and animal encounters, Camel Creek Adventure park is also home to Cornwall’s only 5D simulator. Strap in, sit back, and get ready for a cinema experience like no other! Follow the story of a clockmaker as he travels through time, whilst your seat moves from side to side. There might even be a few surprises along the way!

Holywell Bay Fun Park

Located just a stone’s throw away from Holywell Bay Holiday Park is Holywell Bay Fun Park, home to over 20 rides and attractions. Suitable for all ages, spend the day enjoying a variety of attractions. From bouncy castles and mysterious mazes, to crazy golf and go karts, there’s something for everyone.

A popular attraction at Holywell Bay Fun Park is the Water Walkers. Hop inside the giant inflatable balls and literally walk on water! Kids and adults alike will love to run, flip and spin around in these inflatable balls, and to make it even better, you won’t get wet either.

One activity where you will need a spare change of clothes, however, are the Blaster Boats. Take on your friends and family as you ride along the water, firing water at your rivals! If you fancy staying on dry land, then Football Golf is the perfect game. A combination of these two well-loved sports, the aim of the game is to kick the ball into all 12 holes with as few shots as possible.

As well as a variety of rides and attractions, there’s also plenty for the little ones. From Jolly Tots Soft Play and the Bouncy Zone, to Kiddy Karts and the Pirate Train, it’s the perfect place if you’re visiting with younger children. There’s even an amusement arcade inside the park, meaning you can enjoy a traditional seaside experience on a visit too. To make the park even better, it’s completely free to enter. Once inside, you can explore for free, and simply ‘pay as you play’.

Adrenalin Quarry

If you’re a fan of the outdoors and looking for something to really get your heart pumping, then Adrenalin Quarry is the place to be. Less than 10 minutes from Looe Bay Holiday Park, there are zip wires, giant swings, coasteering, go-karting, and so much more to keep all ages entertained.

One of the most popular attractions at the quarry is the 490-metre-long zip wire. Jump off a 50-metre-high cliff and travel across the quarry at over 40mph! There’s no age limit to take part, so if you have a little one who’s not afraid of heights, they can enjoy the zip wire too. So far, the youngest jumper was just 3 years old, and the oldest was in their 90s! You can even go in pairs if you’re feeling a little nervous. Another fantastic attraction for thrill-seekers is the giant swing. Pulling you up slowly and then releasing you over the cliff edge, swing 160 feet above the lake, taking in the stunning views along the way – that’s if you dare to open your eyes!

If you fancy getting a little wet and wild, try the Wipeout at the Aquapark, new to the quarry in 2018. This inflatable water playground has trampolines, slides, swings, monkey bars, and so much more for the whole family to enjoy. Once you’ve dried off, relax on the grass by the lake and enjoy Cornish delicacies, such as pasties, cake and ice cream.
