Scotland’s Exciting Summer Events

If you’re visiting Scotland this summer, you won’t be stuck for something to do. When you’re not admiring the country’s stunning scenery, you could be sampling the local cuisine, dancing to drums and inspiring music, or taking part in exciting events.

For centuries, Scotland has been a magnet for celebrations and events, so whether you fancy a music festival, an agricultural show or a major sporting event, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Here at Parkdean Holidays, we’ve handpicked some of our favourite events and activities in Scotland, so that you can have a summer to remember.

Speyfest, Fochabers

From the 28th to the 30th of July, the Moray town of Fochabers will be hosting the 22nd annual Speyfest, featuring three fantastic days of traditional and contemporary Celtic music. Whether you’re a fan of this genre or you just fancy an exciting day out, there will be plenty of food, drink and entertainment to keep you busy.

The tented village will be home to several events, including concerts, stomps, music marathons, food fairs, taster sessions and a traditional Celtic Kirk service. The event is also the perfect place for up and coming artists to take to the stage and share their talent with the crowd.

Just under an hour from Nairn Lochloy Holiday Park, the whole family can enjoy this fun-filled weekend. After Speyfest, take a stroll or bike ride along the banks of the River Spey, or step back in time to the 18th and 19th century with a tour around the Fochabers Folk Museum.

Perth Agricultural Show, Perth

Returning on the 4th and 5th of August is the unmissable Perth Agricultural Show, which is set to take place at the city’s South Inch. Roughly an hour from Tummel Valley Holiday Park, not only will you get to see a variety of animals up close, you’ll also get to enjoy some amazing food and drink. There’s plenty of great entertainment on offer too, such as cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs including Rosemary Shrager.

Perth Show has been popular in Scotland for the last 155 years and this year organisers are promising one of the best shows ever. Thousands of animal lovers, farming folk and families are expected to visit the show, which will see over 1,200 livestock compete in 340 classes over the two days.

After the show, discover Perth’s incredible architecture, including the Scone Palace and the Black Watch Castle. If you’re into hiking, then you’ll love a walk up Kinnoull Hill, where you’ll get to enjoy picturesque views over the stunning River Tay.

Galloway Country Fair, Dumfries and Galloway

If you’re staying at either Southerness Holiday Park or Sundrum Castle Holiday Park on the 19th and 20th of August, then Galloway Country Fair is a must visit destination. About an hour from both parks, the award-winning fair brings together food, drink, entertainment, country sports, children’s activities and so much more. It’s a true celebration of everything that the countryside has to offer.

The fair will be taking place in the grounds of the beautiful Drumlanrig Castle and is set to be the best one yet. In the main ring, there’ll be everything from a Horse Whisperer to Owl Magic, and the showground will be packed full of stalls where you can spend the afternoon shopping and sampling a variety of different foods. From clothing and crafts, to bakeries and meats, there’ll be something for the whole family to enjoy.

Whilst you’re in the area, Galloway Forest Park is definitely worth a visit. Whether you want to explore the Galloway’s glens and hills, uncover some of the park’s fascinating wildlife or enjoy some of Britain’s best starry night skies, you won’t be disappointed.

Great Scottish Swim, Loch Lomond

If you’re visiting Loch Lomond on the 26th of August, then you’ll get to see one of the best swimming events in Britain, the Great Scottish Swim. Whether you’re spectating or fancy giving it a go yourself, it’s sure to be an open water swimming experience like no other.

If you do want to take part, then you’ll have to sign up beforehand. There are 1 mile, 2 miles, 5K and 10K events taking place, so no matter what your ability, there should be a race suitable for you.

The event takes place in an idyllic location, as swimmers will be racing through the famous Loch Lomond. At 24.5 miles long, it’s Britain’s largest inland stretch of water by surface area. About an hour from Wemyss Bay Holiday Park, set in the heart of the Trossachs National Park, the area surrounding the Loch is absolutely breathtaking. From wild scenery to thrilling history and exciting activities, there’s plenty to see and do once you’ve watched or taken part in the race.
