Parkdean Masters 2014

Massive congratulations to Jamie Wilde for winning the 2014 Parkdean masters at White Acres Holiday Park and netting himself a £25,000 prize!

Finding himself on unfancied peg 13 in the narrows behind the small island in the middle of the venue; Jamie was out of sight to most of the gathered crowd who were watching from the far bank. Fishing the Method all day, he snatched a few silvers and small F1s to a pound in the first three hours so was never seen to be in the running, as he wasn’t catching any big fish like the anglers on the pegs to his right: who were getting the odd carp.  The focus to his left was on the current Fish ‘O’ Mania champion Andy Geldart who had started to build a good weight on the feeder – cast out to the aerator, and Paul Holland who had been steadily catching silvers all match on the short pole line.

After the all out it was clear just how hard Jenny’s Lake had been to fish, as the early weights were made up predominately of silver fish with an odd rare carp. The atmosphere changed when Andy Geldart put a hard-earned 43-11-0 on the scales – easily putting him in pole position with everyone waiting to see if anyone could beat him. Paul Holland’s super silvers haul pushed the needle to 32-13-0. The next four weights were low – until Jamie Wilde pulled his net out. There was a real buzz around the scales, and when the weight (46-5-0) was announced, you could sense the shock from the watching crowd – no one expected that! The rest of the field failed to put any pressure on Wilde’s weight, and by the time the last angler weighed in – it was confirmed that he had surprised everyone and claimed the big-money prize.

The Parkdean Masters is the finale to the Festival season at White Acres, and it is widely regarded as one of angling’s most prestigious finals. Parkdean’s Regional Director, Stephen Griffiths, who presented the winner’s cheque and Parkdean Master’s trophy, congratulated the winner: “The recent bad weather has not helped the fishing today, and I know it’s been had going for some. Congratulations to Jamie. He’s beat a field of quality anglers today – including seven former Masters champions, a reigning world and the current Fish ‘O’ Mania champion. Well done.”

During a stay at White Acres you’ll have the opportunity to fish one of the weekly resident’s competitions. The winners of these weekly matches (plus anglers who qualify during our festivals) receive qualification into the Preston Innovations Festival leading to the Parkdean Masters one day final where the top 24 anglers fish for a massive prize of £25,000!
