February Half Term in the South West

Although it might feel like Christmas has only just finished, it will soon be time to start planning for February half term and how you’re going to keep the kids amused. So, what better way to keep them occupied than by booking a family trip to the South West, where you will find 700 miles of attractive coastline and countless activities that will keep the whole family entertained.

Here at Parkdean Holidays we’ve rounded up some of the best family holiday destinations to visit during the February half term.

If you want to be surrounded by miles of beautiful coastline, then Cornwall is the place to go. From fishing harbours and beautiful beaches, to sampling the local Cornish pasties and cream teas, you’ll never be stuck for something to do in the region.

There’s over 300 beaches, all of them blissfully quiet in February, and most are open for dogs to run free. You can also take advantage of the countless quiet and cosy pubs that have roaring log fires and are perfect to relax in after a day of family filled fun.

If you’re staying at Looe Bay Holiday Park, then a 10 minute drive down the coast will bring you to The Monkey Sanctuary. Opening from Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th February, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of the 36 monkeys living at the rescue centre. At the sanctuary, there are also several beautiful wildlife gardens and a bat zone, making it the perfect place to keep the whole family entertained for the day.

The largest county in the South West, you can’t move in Devon without finding something fun, cultural or adventurous to do! The north and south coasts are dominated by scenic cliffs and sandy shores, providing the ideal backdrop for a family walk.

In the winter months, why not take advantage of the coastal winds with a little bit of windsurfing? There’s plenty of other activities too, such as visiting historical castles and stately homes, taking arts and crafts classes, going to the theatre, visiting an aquarium and much more.

Just 30 minutes from Torquay Holiday Park is Pennywell Farm. Starting on the 11th February, there will be magic, games, comedy, animals, and much more, which are bound to keep the kids entertained for hours.

Another place to visit is Torquay Alpine Ski Club, which is literally next door to Torquay Holiday Park. Not only can you learn to ski at the club, you can give Ringos and snowboarding a go too.

Dorset’s beautiful landscape and 95-mile stretch of spectacular coastline has influenced its fair share of film makers, poets, and writers, and it’s not hard to see why. Most recently, the region has been used as the setting for the BAFTA winning crime drama, Broadchurch.

A county that boasts crisp clear air, wonderful beaches and stunning countryside, Dorset has endless amounts of brilliant attractions, making it the perfect destination for families. There’s so much to do in the region, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Only 30 minutes from Sandford Holiday Park is Dorset’s award winning family theme park, Adventure Wonderland. Their display show will allow you to meet the meerkats and other fascinating animals too. There’s also a playcentre, a giant maze, and plenty of rides and attractions to keep the kids entertained.

Other attractions in the area include the Dinosaur Museum, which is only 12 minutes away from Warmwell Holiday Park. The museum is the only one in mainland Britain which is solely devoted to the world of dinosaurs and is definitely worth a visit.
