Cornwall Festivals Without the Camping!

Lodge breaks in Cornwall have become the preferred choice of holiday for many couples who are looking for a romantic weekend away. With picture perfect beaches, great weather, and stunning scenery, it’s easy to see why Cornwall is a popular holiday destination for a cosy weekend break. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that there won’t be much to do apart from unwinding in a beautiful lodge.

Cornwall has a whole abundance of activities and events going on across the year, from music festivals, to food and drink events, and even regattas. For the people who like festivals but also prefer to have some home comforts, day festivals are perfect.

We’ve uncovered some of the best festivals and events around Cornwall which make fantastic days out, before you head back to your lodge for some proper food and a good night’s sleep. This way, you get the best of both worlds and can have the perfect weekend getaway.

Food Festivals

Food festivals are a chance for some of the tastiest establishments across the nation to show off what they offer. There are plenty of food festivals held across Cornwall that showcase some of the best homemade produce in the area. If you are looking to try some of the most delicious Cornish ice cream, cheese, local farmers’ meat, and much more, then a food festival could be the perfect day out for you.

You will usually be able to find well known chefs giving demonstrations and talks at food festivals, giving tips on how to make the most of the local produce which is on offer. This is the perfect excuse for you to buy lots of tasty ingredients to bring back to your lodge, where you can put your new found cooking skills to the test.

The Great Cornish Food Festival is the largest festival in the area which is completely dedicated to Cornish food and drink. The event takes place in Truro from the 23rd-25th September, so if you are staying at Newquay Holiday Park, you will only have a short journey back to your lodge at the end of the day.

Headlining The Great Cornish Food Festival this year are the chefs April Bloomfield and Tom Adams, along with local farmer and butcher Philip Warren, who will all be able to teach you a thing or two about Cornish food. There will be a whole abundance of different food stalls on offer at the show, where you can stock up on scrumptious snacks and ingredients for the rest of your holiday.

Music Festivals

Music festivals are the perfect opportunity to see your favourite artists and bands live, whilst hopefully being able to enjoy some of the British summer weather. With its stunning beaches and open countryside, Cornwall is an ideal location for music festivals, and there are plenty going on across the region.

A lot of people are put off by the idea of having to camp at festivals, but they nearly always offer day tickets for the people who want to stay elsewhere, and many are just daytime events which don’t offer camping at all. If you are planning a holiday in Cornwall, you can sing and dance to your heart’s content at a festival before returning to a clean and dry bed in one of our cosy lodges on an evening.

If you are staying at Looe Bay Holiday Park, then the Looe Music Festival is definitely something to look out for. Held on the 23rd -25th September, over 9,000 people per day are expected to descend on this amazing beach festival. This year, headlining acts Bryan Ferry, Wilko Johnson, and Fun Lovin’ Criminals will be joined by artists from all over Cornwall, the UK, and the rest of the world.

Cornwall is renowned for its amazing water-sports scene, and sailing is particularly popular. Regattas are regularly held across Cornwall in the summer months, where a variety of yachts, working boats, dinghies, and windsurfers race against each other in a series of sailing events.

Even if you know nothing about sailing, regattas see people from all over the country joining in the celebrations and watching the events. They are usually held in picturesque seaside towns where there is plenty to do aside from watching the races themselves, and there is always a great party atmosphere.

The Fowey Royal Regatta would be a great day out if you are planning on staying in a lodge at White Acres Holiday Park. This year, the event is taking place from the 14th – 20th August, so you can pick a day to suit you.

The Regatta is one of the UK’s most famous sailing events, are there is a full programme of exciting races to watch. With live music both day and night, fireworks, and a Carnival procession on the Wednesday, the Fowey Royal Regatta has a real festival feel. The town’s traders all get involved in the action too, decking out the shops and cafes and dressing up.
