Cockington Apple Day, Torquay

Cockington Apple DayHaving been going for 20 years, Cockington Apple Day is firmly established as one of the most popular events in the local Devon calendar and this year’s festival takes place on October 14th.

A celebration of local foods, crafts and apple varieties, the festival is also an important fundraiser. National Apple Day was founded in 1990, aimed at raising awareness about how quickly the UK’s apple orchards were disappearing, but also making people aware of the many apple varieties and recipes in the UK. Incredibly, there were once 6,000 varieties of apple grown in Great Britain, and only 9 of these are now widely available.

Devon is one of the largest apple growing regions in the country, particularly well known for its vast range of ciders, many of which can be enjoyed at the festival!

Cockington Apple Day is a great family day out, with children able to enjoy making delicious apple desserts baked in a traditional clay oven, toffee apples and play apple bobbing games, whilst the entertainment includes magic shows, circus acts and live music.

You can also take home fresh apple juice, pressed on a five-tonne Victorian press at the festival.

Apple Day is in Cockington Country Park, in Torquay less than 15 minutes from Torquay Holiday Park. Entrance to Cockington Apple Day is £3.50 for adults and £1.50 for children, with funds from the day going towards Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust.
