Thanks GoldCoast for a Brilliant Oceanfest!

Our dedicated social media team took a trip to Ruda Holiday Park last weekend to show you what the mighty GoldCoast Oceanfest is all about. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it!

Here are our best bits (in no particular order)…

IMG_6743The skating

There’s nothing like watching the pros to make you wish you had the talent! From flips to falls we saw it all, from the comfort of the sidelines with a fresh coffee in hand.

IMG_7028The food

One thing is for sure, the festival goers did not go hungry. From chocolate covered crêpes and waffles to freshly made pizza and authentic onion bhajis, there was something for everyone and of course we had to try each stand!

The atmosphere

Must be one of the best things about Oceanfest. Chilled out and friendly, everyone is welcome from tots to teens to the young at heart. The sun setting behind the stage was gorgeous.

IMG_6902The beach sports

If one thing is going to get you energised for a weekend full of music it’s a competitive game of beach volleyball. The nets lined the beach and teams of all abilities took part. There were plenty more activities in the programme to enjoy too, including Zumba and yoga. We grabbed a Frisbee and the football and were not out of place leaping around the beach!

IMG_6933The surfing

(Or body boarding for the less advanced). Spectators were treated to world class riders surfing world class waves. Inspired, we took to the waves ourselves! With body boards and wet suits of course… the sea might look tropical but it’s still a refreshing 12 degrees.

IMG_7066The tranquility

When a break was needed from the festival action, tranquility was only a short stroll away. Picking a quiet spot on the beach to rejuvenate or strolling to the village for an ice cream was the perfect thing.

IMG_6986The music

If we weren’t fans of alternative hip hop/trip hop/electronica before, we are now! With Roots Manuva getting the crowd started on the Friday night, things only got better with magical performances from the likes of Gaz Coombes, Hudson Taylor and Michael Kiwanuka.

IMG_5159The setting

Rolling countryside, rugged coastline and a glorious beach, we couldn’t ask for more from a festival setting. Take the coastal path along to Baggy Point for some dramatic scenery, you won’t be disappointed!

IMG_6726The accommodation

Staying in a lodge at Ruda Holiday Park was an experience in itself! Camping looked great fun but if that’s not your style (like us) then there is plenty of accommodation with all the comforts from home.

8In a nut shell…

Thanks a bunch Oceanfest, from Saunton Sands rolling into view as we first arrived to the sun slipping away behind that iconic headland on Sunday, we had an absolute blast and we’ll certainly be back!
