Galloway Activity Centre run a range of outdoor activities and certificated courses. The centre has endless amounts of equipment for hire including boats, kayaks and mountain bikes for those who want to keep their feet dry.

The Activity Centre run 1.5 hour ‘taster sessions’ in any of the following: sailing, stand up paddle boarding, windsurfing, kayaking, wobbly water park, combat laser games, archery, mountain biking, climbing and zip wire, leap of faith and new for 2016… a waterslide!

Scottish Dark Sky Observatory


Occupying a fantastic hilltop site on the edge of the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory (SDSO) lies under some of the darkest skies in the UK.

SDSO has two large telescopes to observe the night sky. The observatory is the only publicly accessible, research-grade astronomical observatory in Scotland to be located in a gold tier Dark Sky Park, one of only two in the UK.

Evening session visits include an introductory presentation, followed by a tour of the facility and guided use of the telescopes, all hosted by the resident astronomer.
